The Details
Body Type:SexyHe's tall, lithe and toned. He has shoulder-length brown hair, tanned skin, and constant scruff along his jawline and upper lip. His eyes are demonic-looking to most, the eyeballs being black rather than while, the pupils being bloodred rather than a normal color such as blue or green. This is a side effect of his mutation. He almost always has a roguish grin lighting his features.
Wardrobe: He wears casual clothing when he can get away with it. No matter what he wears, though, in summer or winter, he's always wearing the same old long brown trench coat.
Costume: His costume is somewhat different than that of his fellow X-Men, as his guild costume provides more protection and is fit more for him. His old armored guild costume is almost all skintight black, trimmed in purple, going all the way up and around his face. He's made a few modifications, putting the X-symbol on several points on his costume to identify his affiliation. His trenchcoat goes over his costume, and he had fingerless gloves for the ease of touching things to charge them. He normally keeps his unextended bo staff in a holster at his belt. His person is riddled with decks of cards, knives, throwing spikes, anything that he can charge.
Posture: Normally relaxed. Not all that much gets the Cajun on edge. When sitting, he has a tendency to lounge, putting hands behind his head and his feet up on a table. Standing, he tends to lean against things, be it wall, door frame, cabinet, etc.
Personality: Remy is a very complex individual sometimes, but appears utterly simple on the surface. He is a Southerner by birth, meaning that if at all possible he remains casual, avoiding formal occasions and dress like the plague. He's a joker, loving to laugh and smile, and more than a bit mischievous. He's known for playing pranks on fellow X-Men (especially Wolverine), and has been accused of not taking things seriously. In a combat situation, he taunts and toys with his opponent, using sleight of hand to lure the opponent's attention elsewhere while he preps to strike. He sees life as a gamble, you never know what hand you're going to get dealt. You just have to know when to fold, and when to stay.
Remy is also a ridiculous flirt, and he uses his thick Cajun accent and natural charm to his advantage as often as he can. Part of his mutation makes his charm almost irresistible, and he generally gets what he wants. In the past, he has not been trusted by his teammates because of his background as a thief. For the most part, though, he is trusted now due to his involvement with the X-Men. Love him or hate him, he's gonna be himself. He doesn't see any point in pretending to be something that you're not. He's always insistent on that he's a thief, not a hero.
But below the mischievous demeanor, beneath the bravado and cocky confidence, he is a person who has seen a lot of life. He has seen both the best and the worst in people, and he's determined to be the former. He also knows that being a criminal doesn't make a person bad, any more than doing good deeds makes a person good. It's all about choices, deciding to be who you want to be rather than who someone expects you to be. His school of hard knocks on the streets of New Orleans taught him that, and the ability to both lead and follow.
Turn Ons: Girls in general (particularly ones that have a little fire to their personalities), cards and sleight of hand, generally nice people, cooking, being outdoors, playing pranks.
Turn Offs: Being forced to be serious all the time, bland food, cold weather, 'easy' women, reality TV shows.
Worst Secret: He once had to slaughter mutants at the direction of Mr. Sinister to pay a debt. He turned against his team back then, (before he joined the X-Men) and almost got killed by Sabretooth for his trouble.. but it was too late. The deed was done. He's never told anyone about this.
Character Goals: Goals? Hah, chere, my goals jes' be t'live anudder day. Aw, alrigh'. I'll humor ya.
**Two year Goal - To be a better person, to ensure that the children under his care never have to go through what he did.
**Five year Goal - He hasn't looked that far ahead.So... got any cool powers?
Powers and Abilities
Genetic Mutation:
Molecular Acceleration: Remy has the power to take the potential energy stored in an object and convert it to kinetic energy thus “charging” that item with explosive results. He prefers to charge smaller objects, such as his ever-present playing cards, as the time required to charge them is greatly reduced and they are much easier for him to throw. The only real limitation to this ability is the time required to charge the object. The larger it is the more time it takes. Most charging takes place through direct skin contact. The power of his explosions is dependent on the mass of the object he is charging, for example, a charged playing card explodes with the force of a grenade. Gambit can also use his powers to accelerate an object's kinetic energy instead of converting its potential energy, for example, he can charge his bo staff with enough power to level a house.
Enhanced Agility: Gambit's ability to tap energy also grants him superhuman agility and dexterity which gives him an added edge he has used to his advantage by developing a unique acrobatic fighting style.
Static Interference: Ability to create static, because of the charged potential energy always in his body, that shields his mind from detection from telepaths. Although reportedly uncomfortable for the parties involved, this shield does not completely prevent telepathic invasion as suggested and shown on a few occasions.
Hypnotic Charm: Ability to "charge" the kinetic energy within a person's brain, allowing a subtle influence over any sentient mind. This power allows Gambit to compel others to believe what he says and agree with anything he suggests. More powerful minds have proven immune to Gambit's charm.
Weaknesses:
Kinetic energy is unpredictable at times, and hard to control. He has lost control in the past, though he doesn't do so as often anymore. His kinetic energy is also plentiful, true, but it can be tapped out just like any other power with too much use. It takes a lot, though.
He also cannot charge something unless he is touching it.
His eyes are extremely sensitive to light.
Learned Abilities:
Bilingual: he is fluent in English and Cajun French. Note he also knows some Japanese (not very fluent.)
Expert Marksman: he is profound in throwing small objects such as cards, bolas, knives, and balls with great accuracy.
Master Combatant: though not on the same level as Captain America, he is still a profound fighter often employing martial arts, street fighting, and acrobatics. He is well adept in the martial arts Savate (French kickboxing), and Bojutsu, the art of using a Bo staff. Nick Fury even referred to Gambit as "One of the best hand to hand fighters I've ever seen".
Master Thief: As it says. From experience, can lift just about anything off of just about anyone without detection. Is also a master of sleight of hand.
Resources:
Costume: His guild costume provides far better protection than his X-Men one does.
Vehicle: He owns a motorcycle, as well as can pilot most of the X-Men's assorted vehicles. He's most adept at piloting the Blackbird.
Weapons: Gambit usually employs throwing spikes and playing cards. He also often uses a telescoping bo-staff.
Education:
The only education that he has had is what he learned from his adopted 'family' on the streets of New Orleans, and what his 'father' Jean-Luc taught him. He's picked up a basic education in multiple areas, and is truly intelligent, though he assures others that he's not. He'd tell you straight that he went to the school of hard knocks. So why not tell them the Truth Charles?
The History
"Ma name's Remy LeBeau. Dey also call me Gambit. It's yer choice what ye call me, chere. Accent? I think ye're mistaken. I think ye're the one with de accent. I s'pose ya want t'know my story. I warn ye, it's not for th'faint of heart. Still wanna know? Well, all right."
Remy LeBeau was born on February 20, right in the middle of Mardi Gras on the year he was born. His real parentage is unknown, as he was abandoned soon after birth due to his demonic-looking eyes. You see, his eyes are different.. where normal people would have a white eyeball, he has a black one. And rather than normal colored pupils, (like blue or green), his are bloodred. So here this poor kid is, abandoned by parents who didn't want him in a hospital ward in New Orleans, LA. He was kidnapped out of the hospital ward by members of the Thieves' Guild, and raised on the street. They called the child 'le diable blanc' or 'the white devil,' and believed that he was prophecied to unite the warring guilds. (The Assassin's and Theives' Guilds) He was taught thievery from a young age, and was quite adept at it.
His first big life event, other than his birth and kidnapping, came when he was 10 years old. He attempted to pick the pocket of Jean-Luc LeBeau, the man who was then the patriarch of the Thieves' Guild. He brought the boy into his own family as a son, effectively giving him a last name and the closest thing to a family that the young boy had ever had.
"I'd be da first ta admit dat my da' was hard on me. I never doubted dat he loved me though. He'd be a'harsh on me, cuz I was a thief as well as 'is son. He wanted me ta learn everyt'ing I could so dat I could take 'is place one day. He looked out fer me. I started ta develop an' harness ma powers early. I had to control 'em, ot'erwise someone'd end up dead. Some did.. dey still haunt m'dreams ta dis day. Anyway, m'da did da best he could wit' da Guild an' all, but dere was still a problem. Dat damn war between da guilds was consumin' us all. People dyin,' whether dey were hits or innocents just gettin' caught in da crossfire. It got bad. Dey still thought dat I was da one dat would unite da two Guilds. ..dat was when ah met Bella Donna."
When he was older, his father and the patriarch of the Assassin's Guild arranged a marriage between Remy and the other patriarch's granddaughter, a lovely young girl named Bella Donna Boudreaux. The impending marriage was a part of a peace pact that the two Guilds had arranged. They were tired of fighting, tired of the needless deaths. But not everyone agreed with the Patriachs' decision.
"Bella Donna.. she was a looker. I remember thinkin' dat if I had to be suckered into a marriage for da good of ma family, at least it was dis girl. We was friends growin' up, not knowin' we were part of guilds that di'int like each udder. She was a good friend to me by da time dat our marriage was arranged. She was sweet as a beignet, wit' a face dat could stop a truck. But her bru'der, Julien, he didn't 'tink dat we should marry. We did get married, but at da reception he challenged me ta a duel right den and dere. He came at me.. I di'int mean ta kill 'im. I really di'int. But it happened, and da Guilds, dey were about ta start up da war again. Dey chose ta exile me rather dan see da war started up again.. not dat I blame 'em."
Remy wandered the world, using his skills as a thief he already had, aided by his mutation. Playing cards became his favorite weapon, alongside his bo staff that he became a master with. He could also use such things as throwing knives and broken glass as his projectiles in a hurry. When you can charge things with explosive energy, you're not picky. But cards are his favorite, and it was these and his love of gambling (cheating by using his powers of course) that earned him the nickname of Gambit. He was a charmer, a ladies' man who could get whatever he wanted. He grew more than a little cocky and self-sure. But his power grew to the point where he could not control it, and because of this he had Mr. Sinister remove a portion of his brain stem. Because of that, he has better control. But this left him in Mr. Sinister's debt, and the man had him lead up a team whose purpose was to slaughter an underground team of mutants. Horrified with the result of his actions, he tried to stop the slaughter, and was almost killed by the mutant Sabretooth as a result. He never told a single soul about this mistake, and it still haunts him to this day.
After that, Remy met Storm, a member of the X-Men. Remy helped her to escape the enemy she faced, and Storm sponsored Gambit's entry into the X-Family. His housemates, however, didn't trust him due to his past as a thief. The only ones who really trusted him were Xavier himself and Storm at first. But slowly he's proven himself worthy of the trust of his teammates, and gotten a family that he'd only since dreamed of.
Remy is an active part of the X-Men, but he still remains haunted by his past. He doesn't believe that it will ever really leave him. He may be right. Run-ins with Bella Donna (who was a mutant, by the way) yanked him back into the crossfire between the Guilds more times than one. Bella Donna resented the fact that Remy kept leaving her, not realizing that the man never really loved her in return. He's divorced now.
"I never t'ought I had anyting wort' offerin' to dis world. But I was proven wrong again when I found out how I'd do wit' da chirren at X-Mansion. I love dose kids, and dey seem to love me. It's a diff'rent sorta life den I'm used to. But I'd never trade it f'r any'ting."All schools have tests.

He was home. A sense of profound, if surprising, relief coursed through him as he looked up at the looming mansion before him, gaze roving over its familiar grounds and occupants. Shouts and laughter drifting on the wind were music to his ears as he passed the basketball courts. The younger children ran and played, while some groups had come outside for classes as if it were the middle of summer. He shivered at the very thought. He was a Southerner born and raised.. back in New Orleans cold weather had been few and far between. That was the only thing he hadn't missed while he was away. It wasn't so often that the Cajun was so sentimental. Hell, it wasn't like he was about to state his sentiments aloud. He had a reputation to uphold.
A roguish grin crossed his face as a couple of people spotted him and called out. He waved quickly, moving his hand back to the handlebar throttle of his motorcycle. He raised his legs back onto it, rumbling towards the garage. He halted to put his number in, and the door lifted. He barked a laugh. "Glad t'see dey still remember me.." he remarked aloud to no one in particular as he bypassed the gate, to park his 'cycle in its usual spot.
Those who knew Gambit would notice that he was dressed in casual attire for him, that of blue jeans and a long sleeved tee topped by his usual long trench coat. Long, shaggy brown hair was wind-tousled, falling into his demonic-looking eyes. His eyeballs were black, whilst his pupils were bloodred. It was those eyes, a side effect of his mutation, that had caused his parents to abandon him in the hospital at birth. His skin was tanned, and there was more than usual stubble along his strong jawline. He dismounted his bike, slinging his pack over his shoulder as he moved towards the door from the garage into the X-Mansion.
It had been a few months since he'd been here last. He had only really told the Prof what was going on in detail before he left. The rest he had simply told he was going to New Orleans. That had been sufficient for most, but Rogue had pressed him on it. All that he would tell her was that there were some things that he needed to take care of. You see, Remy's da had been the leader of the Thieves' Guild back home for years. With him gone, the rightful leadership came to Remy. But he didn't want it anymore. The Thieves' Guild and the Assassins' Guild had been at war for generations. The Assassins' Guild, see, was headed up by his ex-wife, the woman who was still in love with him and bat-shit crazy.. Bella Donna Boudreaux. She'd been causing trouble with the rival Guild, despite that they'd negotiated a peace treaty several years back. Remy's replacement as the leader had needed the ex-thief's help with dealing with her. Which, of course, had been Bell's intent all along. It had taken some time.. and quite a few scuffles, to set things right again. It had taken longer than h thought it would.
The reaction to his appearance was instantaneous, people crying 'Gambit!' and 'Gambit's back!' joyfully throughout the mansion, making the Cajun laugh. He hugged quite a few students and fellow X-Men, traded warm hand-shakes with others. He was home now, regardless of where he had been born and raised. Even despite the cold. When at last the crowd thinned, he looked up to see a familiar face framed with its white-streaked hair. A rakish grin crossed his features as he spoke to her. "'ey dere, chere. Ya miss me?" He and Rogue had more than flirted for a good while. He had to admit, he was falling in love with the girl.. which made him want to keep her at a distance. She wouldn't get hurt by his past that way. But seeing her again had brought a surge of affection that he simply had to convey somehow. The Player
