Professor Xavier decided that it would be the best for Tabitha and Mirandel should be room mates, Jean being in charge of the female dorms had to inform the two girls. Even if it wasn’t her job she would elect herself to do it. After all, Scott would be a bit too cold about it and Bobby would probably try to get one or both of the girls back to his room. The redhead was unsure how either of the girls would take it but she knew it had to be taken care of delicately. She told both girls to meet her in her classroom for she can work on her lesson plan while she waited. Scott would be proud with her use of time management or mock her. She schedule Tabby to come in a bit before Mira for the room they would be sharing is Tabby’s current one. Talking to Tabby first, seemed the way to go, that way if she had an explosive response she could calm her down before bringing in Mira. Jean just hoped she could defuse the blonde fast if things go that way. The redhead shook her head telling herself not to focus on the most negative possible outcome for she was sure if she was positive things would be positive. Jean sat at her desk scheduling what she wanted to cover when classes started back up. Her long red hair was in a thick braid with a white bow on the end that matched her gold bow earring. She wore a lacey top and a leather mini skirt and calve high boots. She thought she looked nice and professional, not seeming to realize the heel of her boots were a little too high and her skirt was a bit too short. The telepath looked up from her work and looked to her wall clock to see if Tabby was late and began to toy with her phoenix pendent. |

The door opened and in breezed Tabitha Smith. she had been a student at the Institute for some time now, so the faculty was pretty used to her particular fashion sense. Like today for instance. Her denim skirt was frayed at the hem, a relic from when she lived on the streets but Tabby would not let anyone buy her new clothes. Over it she wore a scoop neck blue t-shirt that brought out her eyes. Her blond curls were pulled back and framed her face and she was chewing a wad of gum.
The bubble forming on her lips popped and Tabitha gave jean a huge grin. she tended to be less formal with the staff when not in class, seeing as how she was practically the same age as most of them.
"Heya Jeannie! Ah love yer skirt, so adorable!" Tabitha came around behind Jean, and gave her a tight hug. she then hopped up on top of the desk in front of her and crossed her legs at he knee. "So-- what's goin on? If this is about who put the jell-o inn the swimmin pool, Ah can honestly say it wasn't me--this time."

Jean was surprises that Tabby was somewhat on time. She had been a bit concern that Tabby wouldn’t be there until after Mira and then things would likely to be awkward. Now she could at least defuse any explosive response on from Tabby before the new girl showed up. She gave the younger blonde a hug and smiled. “It is good to see you. You look nice.”
“This has nothing to do with the pool.” The redhead then tilted her head back. “I am pretty sure that was Bobby, anyways.” She waved her hand and shook her head. “It seems more his style anyways.”
“I call you here for the Professor has decided something. He believes that you would benefit with having a room mate.” The telepath decided it was best to get down to business. She watched the girl’s face and mind as she spoke hoping she would take the news well. “So, Mirandel, a new girl would be moving into your room with you.”
Jean gave Tabitha sometime to process what she just told her. She touched Tabby’s hand and pat it to let her know she was her for her is she needed her. “Mirandel is a nice girl. She had a tough life but I believe you will get on well.” She looked at the clock again. “I have Mirandel meeting me here so I can tell her about the move and so you two can meet.”

Just because Mira didn't intend to be late, didn't mean she wasn't capable of being an oblivious derp at times; unfortunately. Especially when it came to her zoning out with her MP3 player; and wandering in the direction she thought was where Miss Jean had asked her to meet her at. Unfortunately this wasn't the case; Mira merely got herself turned all around and ended up at the girls dorms.
The poor doofus manages this fail twice more before a kind-hearted classmate took pity on the newbie and asked where she was trying to go. After the helpful student practically led Mira by the hand she finally found the place Jean wanted her to get to. After hearing two people talking within Mira decided to be polite and wait till things had gone quiet before knocking on the door "ello? Jean?".
As she spoke up Mira opened the door a bit and stepped in; revealing herself fully to Tabby, who she didn't spot right off the bat. A slight she inadvertently was quick to rectify as the feline looking girl with odd features looked to the side and saw Tabby not Jean first "Oh!, um hi...sorry for not noticing you right away; I thought Jean was in here alone". As she spoke Mira's thoughts were going back over the fact she'd gotten lost quite throughly just because she'd gone left when she should have gone right down the halls.

Tabby was a little bit surprised to be honest. She hadn't expected a roommate after all these years, but it wasn't like she didn't know how to share. Okay, maybe she did get a little possessive of her stuff, but it was only because Tabby never really HAD stuff before. So now that she did, she didn't like loosing track of it.
All in all though, Tabitha didn't want Jean or anyone mad at her or thinking she was just a selfish brat who had to have her own way and own space all the time. She smiled and took Jean's offered hand, squeezing back lightly in return. "Naw... it's no big deal Jeannie. Really. I'll be glad to have someone to share with... it's been kinda lonely without Sam around, ya know?" Tabitha said softly, her voice cracking just abit as she spoke of the mutant boy who had saved her life and brought her to the school to begin with.
When the door opened, abs turned with curiosity to see who was entering. If Darkshard's appearance phased her she didn't lt it show in the slightest. "No worries, I can be invisible when it serves mah purpose. You're Mira, right? Howdy, Ah'm Tabby yer new roomie. Folk round here call me Boomer."

Jean was a bit proud of Tabby for she seemed to take the news well. She had expected explosives but was, for a change, pleased to be wrong. Actually, she was quite proud of Tabby for proving her wrong. She smiled and assured the pretty blonde. “I really don’t think you have nothing to be afraid of. I think you will hit it off well with the new girl.” One thing she knew she could count on Tabby for was being nice to new students, she maybe a bit of a troublemaker but she knew the girl had a good heart.
Her nervousness about the new arrangement between the two girls was all but gone when Mirandel enter her classroom. She smiled at Mira as Tabby broke the news to her and then Jean felt the need to elaborate. “The Professor thought it would be good for the two of you to room together. He would like you to move to Tabby’s room.” She paused hoping the change wouldn’t be too much for Mira for after all the school itself was rather a big change for her. Jean really hoped that they were not bombarding the girl with too many changes at once but she trusted the Professor, for he never been wrong about these thing before.
The redhead was quiet for a moment as she tried to think of something that would help the girls bond faster than just being thrown into a room to live together. Then Jean got an idea that made her smiled at Tabby and then Mira. “Maybe after Tabby help you move your things to your new room and get you settled the two of you can take one of the cars and go into town. Tabby, you can show Mira around and maybe take her shopping for some clothes or things for your guys’ room.” She paused believing it would be an excellent way for them to get to know each other and to give Mira a feel for the town.
“I will even give you one of the school charge cards with a spending limit of $500.” Jean was sure when Scott find out he was going to annoyed that she wasn’t going with them to chaperone and the fact she gave them a charge card. The redhead trusted them to behave without her overseeing and besides Mira needed some new clothes. She shook her head shaking away any doubt.

Tabitha's blue eyes lit up in excitement. Jean had said the magic word. Shopping.
For so so long Tabby had to steal anything she needed and never even thought about anything she wanted. Now, she was a little bit OCD about where her things were kept, simply because she actually had THINGS.
A huge grin came across her lips and she turned to Jean excitedly.
"Oh this'll be fun Mira! Jeannie, can you spare a few hours from teacher duty to come with us? We'll have soooo much fun! You know we will! Please?"
The excitement bubbling off the blond firecracker was palpable as she twirled around in a circle, holding Mira's hands.
She'd never had a Barbie, after all. Playing Dress Up was going to be fun.

The brit-raised Mutant girl had head-tilted quizzically at Tabby's accent but she soon nods and smiles a little "yes'm; Mirandel is me full name, glad to meetcha Tabby". Though at first Mira had smiled in a close-mouthed manner to hide her fangs she flashed the feline incisors when she laughed companionably as Tabby revealed her codename "well the kind folks here didn't give me my nickname but I'm also called 'Darkshard' thanks to what I can do". In way of explanation Mira holds up her hands and lets Tabby see her 'hidden blades' form from the crystal-like scales on the back of her hands before she reverts them to smooth, flat 'armor' upon her hands once more.
As the odd cat girl admittedly showed off she was smiling proudly; clearly happy she had such nice control of one of her abilities. Though she soon looked to Jean as the other woman spoke, Smiling brightly when she was told she'd have a roomie; and Boomer was that roomie. The happiness bubbles over in a giggle fit as the girl responds to Jean "oh cool! I'm totally fine with sharing a room with Boomer Jeanie! thanks for letting me and her know the professors idea". Least now Jean could stop worrying about the girls not liking the idea, even with how she'd worried the new girl was gonna get overloaded; which didn't seem to be occuring. Neither outwardly nor inwardly if Jean cared to check Mira's mental state.
Moments before Boomer's spazzdance Mira looked her way once more "and I hope it helps to know I don't have a ton of stuff to move? I mostly had old reuse-center clothes when Jeanie and her friends found me and my younger friends I'd been helping stay alive back in London". Even as Mira spoke though, the pointed ear nearest Jean seemed to twitch before she looked at Jean again "Shopping trip?...and it won't be overpriced as bloody 'ell?". Seeing Jean shake her head would incur another feline-style confused headtilt right as Boomer grabbed her hands and started dancing a startled Mira in a circle. So Mira was unable to agree with Boomer's words about wanting Jean along; well beyond nodding anyway as she confusedly yelped "whaAAAaaAAt ArrrEEE YOOOooOOU DOoooOOOOIIING BoooOOOMMMeeeRRR?". Clearly she sounded so distorted thanks to getting spun about as she tried to keep her footing despite her odd leg structure.

Jean was a bit surprised how quickly the two girls took to the idea of being roommates but it pleased her. She was also surprised Tabby invited her to go shopping with her. She did not take Tabby as a person that liked to be supervised and would never thought she would ask a teacher to come out with her. Well, maybe Bobby or Remy for both were more openly willing to bend rules for a pretty face.
“Are you sure you want me to go along?” She brushed her hair behind her ear as she looked to Tabitha wanting to make sure she was sure. “I know, Scott would prefer that I go with you but I trust you two to go on your own.” The telepath shook her head and sighed realizing she was over thinking it then smiled. “I would love to go. It would be a nice bonding experience for all of us.”
Jean watched the girl go around in circle and was happy to see neither girl seem like they would need to have a counseling session because of their new living arrangement. Well, at least not right out of the gate. Then she realized that Mira might have some concerned about going into town and shopping. “There is one more thing that the Professor wanted me to talk to you about...”
She moved slowly to pull out what looked to be a thick-banded watch and laid it out on the desk. “The Professor wanted me to ask you if you would like a holo-watch for when you have to business off school grounds. Some of our more... unique looking students feel more comfortable covering their more noticeable mutations under a hologram when going out in public and some like showing off their uniqueness. It is your choice.” Jean looked to Mira to see how she responded to her words. “It just casts a hologram over you. You will look like a normal girl but if someone touches you, they will be able to feel your fur and claws. Also, the way the holograms are you must keep your tail close or it will be visible and it is only design to cover the form you are in now.”

Tabby laughed. Sorry babe... Ah tend ta get a lil carried away. Ah never had a sister... only child whose parents didn't give a fuck about what happened to her after they got to deduct the taxes each year. So Ah've been dyin fer a roomie."
She gave Jean a long "seriously?" look. "Ah hate t'break it to ya, Jeanie, but-- well-- yer kinda the best friend Ah've ever had. So gettin ya to go out shoppin with me and mah new roomie? Hell Ah feel like it's mah birthday!"
Tabby was a student mainly because she hadn't finished High School. she tended to hang out with the staff more than the students in general, because of her age. Maybe now she should change that though.

When Tabby finally ceased spinning poor Mira she was left trying to reorient her balance as she just sort of nodded to the other girl's apology. Then she finally spoke up "I would say I know how that feels to be an only kid Boom; but I lived with a group of kiddos back home after I got older". She winces as if feeling bad "and before my adopted mother's passing she and Adoptive father tried to make me feel loved, sorry your folks were so hateful".
Then she finally looked at Jean "I agree with Tabby, I'd be happy to go shopping with ya Jean". For all of two seconds until she saw the thing Jean pulled out of her pocket the feline looking girl seemed to look like she thought she was in trouble when Jean mentioned the Professor. But she switched from worried to curious at spying the thing "so...that holo-watch thing will make me look like a human s'long as I keep my tail close?".
She then looked back up at Jean as she showed how she could hide her tail by wrapping it loosely about her slim waist "if it keeps the Human's from sneering at me for once in my life I'd appreciate the holo-watch". At least now Jean knew Mira wasn't going to be offended by the Holo-watch suggestion as the girl moved forward and picked the thing up. Mira looked down at the thing now in her hand inquisitively "so...how do I get it to work? put it on and press one of the buttons?".
Then she finally responds to Jean's warning about people figuring her out if she was touched "I think I can be careful about the being touched thing too Jean no worries there, besides I think I feel safer already knowing yer going with us". Now the girl would look at Jean and smile in a trusting manner, proving she meant what she'd said hopefully.
