Jean was behind on her on her welcome wagon baskets. School and family obligation kept her busy. Now she was making it up by putting the best basket she could for Mirandel. She found the best basket she could and filled it with a box of mint tea, chocolates and some pretty looking apples. In the basket she also included a little stuff mouse that she thought was cute and some soaps and bath stuff she liked. When the basket was properly filled she left her room and headed down to the girl’s dorm. She was sure that Mirandel will like it. She wore a heavy black and white sweater and a tiny blue mini skirt with vintage black and white go-go boots. For a change her hair was not pulled back in ponytail and was flowing along her back. It was a simple outfit but she knew it look good. The redhead telepath stopped in front of Mirandel’s door and knock. She squared her shoulder and waited for her to answer. Her mission was a simple for that day. She was going to befriend the mutant girl and then if she had time she was going to have to go find Scott so he could see how good she looked. Jean had goals for the day laid out before and now she just have to make sure she goes through with them and Jean always went through with her goals.

Likely a side-effect of being a telepath might mean you ended up occasionally picking up stray thoughts. Particularly from folks that were thinking a bit 'louder' than most; which could serve to let Jean know she had gotten to Mira's room while the girl she was after had been 'home' as it were. Though in the first few seconds after Jean had politely knocked on her door Jean might 'hear' the *pop* of a mental bubble of sleepiness before someone moved from bed to door.
Apparently Mira wasn't one of those 'early risers; and getting used to living in a boarding school type place wasn't helping. So at first Jean might hear mumbled vocalizations that didn't sound too polite. But the newcomer to the School opened the door of her room to reveal she'd apparently found the pajamas meant for her use. Though the pajama pants might have been more for a shorter girl as they stopped about where Mira's 'dewclaws' were. As she opened the door and lightly rubbed her eyes with the heel of her palm Mira mumbled a bit "Morning...I think?...I'm sorry but I don't think we've met...th'names Mirandel".
As she spoke the pseudo-feline sniffed the air and headtilted at the basket curiously before looking up at Jean again "sorry fer not saying so sooner; you look nice...whats with the basket though?". Clearly Mirandel was unused to others wanting to make her feel welcomed in their own way as she scritched lightly at the neckline of her PJs before realizing she still had no idea who left her the pajamas "you wouldn't happen to know who left me the PJ's would you? I've been meaning to thank whoever had shown me this kindness". as the feline girl spoke her tail could be seen lazily flicking behind her as she stood in her dormitory doorway before jolting realizing she was being mildly rude "um if you want you can come in and sit down I guess...if you wanna talk with me or whatever?".

Jean mentally winced when she felt that apparently had woken up Mira. She tend to forget that all people were not like her and up at dawn. She felt bad and thought about just leaving the basket out in front of the door and going to find Scott. Of course, Jean couldn’t do that for it would not help fulfill her goal on befriending the new girl. So the perfect redhead took a deep breath and made a not to make it up to the other girl later. Maybe she would take her shopping or something.
When Mirandel open the door she greeted her with her best and brightest smile. “Good morning, I really didn’t mean to bother you. I just wanted to make sure you were properly welcomed to the school. I am Jean Grey, I am a former graduate and I now teach literature here at the school.”
She held out the basket for the other girl. “The basket is something I like to do. It’s my way of welcoming you to the schools. I throw together some things that I think you may like.” She shrugged and frowned a bit. “Normally I make some sort of bake good but with the holidays and med school starting back up I didn’t have time but there are apples and mint tea.” Jean looked to Mira, hoping she didn’t mind the lack of fresh bake good not wanting to disappoint the new girl and thinking she need to re-work her schedule yet again so she could fit baking for new arrivals in. Maybe kick back on sleep a little. How much sleep did she really need anyways?
“The pajamas were me. When people first arrive I tend to make sure they have something of comfort.” The redhead smiled slight and shrugged slightly. “I find pajamas comforting. I am glad you like them. They look really good on you.” Her tone was extremely cheerful and happy but she reminded herself to pull it back a bit knowing that some people didn’t like morning people.
“I would like to sit, talk and get to know you.” Jean stepped into Mirandel’s room and looked around for a moment before look back at Mira as she brushed her hair away from her face. “Are you finding everything at school alright? Are you having any troubles?” She wanted to make sure the she was comfortable at the school. This is her home now she should feel comfortable.

Mira half-sleepily chuckled at the thought Jean was being a bother "don't worry about it; I might not be up the moment the sun peeks into me window, but that don't mean I en't a morning person". As she'd spoken the girl had stepped back and perched like a cat on her somewhat mussed up bed "well Miss Grey; I'm happy to say that I'm settling in pretty well here" while yakking away the girl's tail showed an odd level of strength for something so skinny as she used it to take the basket. Though she did show that strength didn't last long for a thing like a basket of goodies, least if the quickness of her tail pulling it toward her bed was any clue.
Despite the lack of a baked thing in the basket Mira was smiling brightly enough as she pulled an apple free "oh wow! I never used to get fresh apples without gobs of brown gooshy spots on em!". The female mutant girl smiles up at Jean "I don't mind that there's nothing baked in here; really Miss Grey, I would have been happy with just the PJs and a warm place fer me and my younger friends to sleep".
The semi-cat like mutie smiles brightly despite her fangy teeth "but the tea and fruits among other things are well appreciated". As she continues speaking the girl chuckles "and I do feel very welcome thanks to your efforts Jean". She continues quietly chuckling "and I fully understand the situation that waylaid your plans that you seem to usually go through, no worries on that score; maybe we could bake something together later or whatever?".
At this point Mira would give a bright smile though unwittingly her mind broadcast the pain these words cause her on some level "me and my adopted mum used to bake almost every weekend...". Internally, despite the smiles and cheer the cold shards of mental suffering would reveal clips of a mental 'movie' that would reveal the last moments of Mira's mother. Clearly just being around Mira was going to be quite...enlightening. But despite the accidentally broadcast thoughts Mira seemed to clearly be trying to appear cheerful as she kept smiling "thanks for the compliment, how'd you know skyblue on indigo was my fave color combo?". Least now Jean had a safe 'opening' to reveal she was a Telepath. Mira looks a bit sheepish at the last query "I'd love to sit and talk too; I'm finding everything fairly ok...I sorta got lost in the halls once but a big blue fuzzy dude that looked like sasquatch kept me from going down an all metal hallway...said I'd be safer if I didn't head that way...what was down there? I heard fighting noises when he told me I shouldn't go there...".

Jean was please that her effort didn’t seem to be wasted on Mirandel. She gave her a bright smile as she sat on the bed next to her. “You don’t have to worry about that anymore. The Professor always makes sure we have the freshest fruits. Apples especially since there is an apple farm like just up the road.” She smiled slightly as she remembered something. “One of the first thing Scott asked me out to was apple picking.”
The red haired mutant then shook her head doubting the new girl wanted to hear about her love life. She didn’t think any new person wanted to hear about the complicatedness that was Scott and her. Plus, she didn’t really want to explain it for she wasn’t really sure there were a Scott and her. Adult relationship were a lot more complicated then romantic comedy ever made them out to be, she missed her simple puppy love and following around Scott with no worries.
Something Mira said and felt broke Jean out of her own thoughts. She touched the other girl’s hand and smiled wanting her to know that she was there if she wanted her. “I think maybe we should get a few of the other girls and do a baking day.” The telepath shrugged trying not to let on she picked up her thoughts knowing some new students got jumpy when they find out she could pick up their thoughts. “The ways the schools go through bake goods we sort of need to just to lower the bakery bill.”
Then Mira asked how she knew her favorite color and Jean folded her hands on lap. “I knew because like the Professor I am telepath.” She was unsure how Mira would take the news. She knew her gift scared most younger mutants and some of the older ones, too. “It was something I picked up from you when you were brought to the school.”
“I am also a telekinetic. Jean revealed to get the conversation off her picking up stray thoughts and displayed her power by picking the stuff mouse that was in the basket with her telekinesis. She made the mouse dance in the air before putting it back in the basket. “This is just a fancy way of saying that I can move things with my mind.”
Jean smiled as Mirandel revealed that she almost wander into an active Danger Room. That would have most likely ended with someone being sent to the med lab and probably traumatize Mira. “That would be the Danger Room. It’s where we learn and train with our powers. Once you are more settle in one of the staff will take you to the Danger Room to see where you are in your power development.”
“Most find it fun.” She shrugged slightly. “But some find it a bit stressful.”

The feline-type mutant girl grins a bit "good to know Jean; I never resorted to stealing fruit before but I had to pay far too much for fresh food like this". then she sheepishly winces "though...does the Professor also make sure fresh meat is available as well?, if not I can help by hunting". As the girl offered to hunt for the school she smiles in what she thought was a friendly manner. Then she chuckled softly at Jean's admission "least he showed he cares about you; yes?". Least the girl wasn't poking fun at Jean for her and Scott's...thing that was no longer simple as Puppy love.
Aside from a faint twitch Mira didn't try to edge away from Jean's touch as she shoved the last shreds of sadness back into their little corner of her mind. Instead she smiled faintly in appreciation of the gentle touch, though she was likely unaware of Jean 'seeing' her memories. She had cracked a wide smile at mention of a baking day though "I think that sounds like alot of fun Jean!; you think the other girls would have fun too?". Mira was still sort of giggling at Jean's next comment "well least you can turn fun into a quick lesson to teach kids to bake this way?".
When Jean revealed how she knew of Mira's favorite colors the female thankfully only appeared to jolt in surprise before she responded "so you can read my mind like an open book?, that's so cool!". Clearly the female Jean was speaking with didn't compute the fact that Jean might have picked up her earlier thoughts. Let alone the fact that Jean had told her Professor X was another Telepath. Hopefully this would mean that Jean wouldn't need to worry about Mira freaking out later.
By the time Jean revealed she was a Telekinetic as well Mira was too enthralled by the moving toy to be scared of Jean "that is wicked cool Jeanie!". As Jean moved the mouse and spoke up again Mira appeared to hunker down like a cat preparing to launch itself at a moving target, least until Jean put it back in the basket. When Mira sat back up like a normal person she finally remembered the apple in her hand and set to munching it as she listened to Jean. As she finished the apple she laughs "sounds like my abilities with my 'Dark Crystal' are sorta similar to your Telekinesis Jean".
Mira laughingly winces as she found out what room she'd nearly found the hard way was "jeesh, prolly a good thing the big guy spotted me then...though I would love to see what the room looks like when it en't active or is there some way I can watch the other kids use it?". Then she grins broadly "I might be one of the ones who find it fun too after all".

“The Professor is good about keeping fresh produce and meat. He know certain mutations require special dietary needs like most feral mutants need fresh meat and mutations involve need a higher calcium intake than a normal person.” Jean told Mira wanting to assure her Xavier would cover all her needs. She knew most new students had a hard time realizing that Xavier did a good job of caring for everyone needs.
The redhead smiled pleased that Mira seemed to warming up to her and seemed eager to do things that would help her to create a bond with the school and other students. When she tells Xavier this she was sure he would be pleased. Jean was sure she was assuring Mira would stay and grow to be productive member of the school and happy to be there to help her get there.
She grinned as her telepathy was deemed ‘cool’. “I always thought so.” She fussed a bit with her hair and then sighed as she began to fuss with the basket. She forced herself to stop fussing and fold her hands in her lap. “Some get a bit uneasy with the idea of being around someone with the ability to see their thoughts.” She shook her head. “I assure I never adventure out with my powers where I am not wanted. The little of have picked up from your thoughts I just used to help and try to make you more comfort.”
“Your abilities to interest me a lot, maybe I can introduce you to the Danger Room and while I am showing you what it can do you can show me what you can do.” Jean paused a moment before continuing. “Introductory Danger Room is usual Scoot’s job but we can make an exception this once besides it will be fun.” She said in overly cheery tone that she knew grated some nerves but she really couldn’t stop herself.
