The office was quiet and old fashioned with light old growth wood furniture. Bookcases and a large heavy desk are centered before and around a beautiful baywindow overlooking the grounds at floor level. Right outside the office was an elevator to take to the second floor which was available to all but sort of reserved for Xavier.
Beside and behind the desk was a table with a coffee machine and a fridge underneath. Atop it were glasses and mugs. Behind the desk and working on his computer was Charles Xavier. Dressed in a brown suit, white shirt, a loose tie, and black slacks with a blanket over his crippled legs. The bald headmaster was busy doing what he had to do for too many of his students. Proactively altering public files and databases to hide his students from whatever authorities were needed. As well as facilitating his custody of them and their education status here at his private school.
Encrypted passwords were a bit of an arachic practice in the face of a worldmind telepath like Professor Xavier. He had long since given himself clearence in enough federal agencies and databases to alter any public record but reserved this abuse of his powers for the safety of his children.
He finished up and pushed his keyboard shelf back into the desk. He had an appointment with Mortimer today and had made a decision that he hoped the young man liked. Xavier played, despite some views, no favorites and stuff with others. Mortimer Toynbee was as important a student to him as any other. He poured a cup of breakfast tea for himself and another for his future guest.

The young green mutant was walking down the hallway, on his way to Professor Charles Xavier’s office, he was quite nervous about this meeting. Toad who had not been around the school for very long yet was afraid that the kind older man had changed his mind and wanted to send him back to the street where he found him, it wasn’t like anyone else had wanted him before.
He stopped outside of the office and took a deep breath, he really would rather go and grab something to eat, it was usually what he wanted to do, and actually what he enjoyed the most of all. He scratched his head and looked at the door before he opened it and entered.
He swallowed and decided he might as well just get it over with, time to face the Professor. “I am really sorry if I did anything wrong mate, just please don’t kick me out, I like it here, it’s warm and the food is nice” he pleaded as he took a seat in the chair in front of the desk, he figured he would eventually turn his back on him, it just had to happen didn’t it?

Xavier frowned when Mortimer entered and began to plead. "Mortimer, this meeting is nothing of the sort; in fact I was wishing to discuss your continuation with us here and what direction you wanted to go in. Your placement tests scores are in and I felt that we should discuss what directions we can go in with your future here and once YOU decide its time to leave what you want to do."
Xavier smiled and sipped his drink. "So please sit down and let me know if you would like a drink. I have hot coffee, hot tea, iced tea, and bottled water available." Once Mortimer said his preference Xavier served his drink and let Mortimer make adjustments as needed.
He then handed Mortimer the results of his placement test. "Despite a long pause in any formal education for you Mortimer, you did markedly well. Your reasoning scores were quite high." He sipped his tea and thought about that. He could think of a few with higher but not many were in the league of Erik and those people. People whose intelligence was a non X-gene mutation... and maybe was.
He let the kid review it. "So first, you need to make a decision. Its a small one. Because alot of the students here had to flee their lives before coming here, I tend to have students who are behind where they should be grade level wise. Its not a mark against them, since it was more out of escape and survival than anything to do with performance. Most quickly regain their footing and hop into the level they need to be. So the question I have, do you feel confident in entering the grade level you should be at or would you like to take a slower and steadier course?"

Feeling silly, but also relieved Toad started relaxing, so it was just a normal school talk? He nodded as he listened, he hadn’t thought about what he wanted to do with his life, he was kind of just living right now and doing what was expected of him to stay here.
“I want iced tea!” he said with a smile, he was always ready to eat or drink, especially if it tasted sweet or greasy, iced tea was the only tempting thing out of his offers. He took a long sip as he received the iced tea, yum.
He received his test results and looked at them, a smile went across his face, it was better than he had expected, he didn’t consider himself smart or anything, he must have been lucky “nice, I didn’t even cheat” he had considered cheating, but with telepathic teachers it wouldn’t really work.
He didn’t really need to think about what the Professor said, it sounded to him like he was asked if he wanted to take the easier road or the harder road “slower and steadier sounds easier, I like to keep it easy” he smiled sadly, also thinking about how he didn’t want to be in a class where everyone else was smarter than him. He had drunk all of his iced tea already “got some of that cold tea?” some might call him rude and innapropriate, but he didn’t really know much about manners.

Xavier smirked to Toad. "At least you said it aloud, about the cheating, most students just think it and I give this same smirk." He smiled. *You also realized the most important lesson of all. I will know.* His smile didn't change though, he was amused, not annoyed.
"As I said, it is an option. Your math skills seem up to date so those will be grade level. Social Studies will be as well. English, pardon the expression, will be a bit backed up but I suspect that will be quick since European Lit and Grammar tend to be ahead of the American standards so you might be ahead anyway. Science will be the slowest and steadiest of the subject material."
He passed Mortimer the pitcher and let him take care of himself. The boy wasn't biting him, so Xavier had experienced rougher personalities. "So is there anything I can do for you Mortimer?"

Toad laughed nervously “I know there is no point in lying to a telepath” he paused before adding “I am glad you are a telepath, others might expect me to cheat or suspect me of it, I was always accused of it at the orphanage when I did well”.
“Math is easy, I just wish we had a better math teacher” he said bluntly “I hate English, literature and all of that shit, its hard and boring and science is even worse” he really had no interest in any of the school subjects, in a way it was just something he did in order to keep this roof above his head.
“Thanks” he was almost ready to drink from the pitcher, but changed his mind, sure he wasn’t that great at social standards and expectations, but he knew this one would have been rude. He filled up his glass and chugged it down, before filling it up again.
“I don’t know, you have done much already” he said with a smile, Mortimer was a happy boy as long as he felt safe and was treated well, which he did feel like he experienced in this school. The only issue was that he felt like an outsider even here, nobody would be around him or speak to him and it did bother him sometimes.

Xavier nodded to the boy. "It keeps everyone honest. Though you would be surprised how much a few of my earlier students thought they could get away with it. Then I explain to them exactly what they were doing and how they were disorting the truth. Its quite the sight to see the back pedalling. As for yourself, I am glad you realize that you are appreciated. I hope that we can make strides together in the places where you need a little help."
Xavier listened. "I always hated math. Boring, uninteresting, formula-based... Social Studies and biology were my choice subjects. As you can imagine, with what I set up here I am a bit of a community wonk." He smiled. "I had a great professor of genetics in England. He was the one who first noted the existance of the X-Factor, though he called it 'a wild genome', the very thing that gives us each our extrordinary abilities." Have you ever heard someone talk about their favorite teacher? Toad just did.
Xavier watched the decision making in Toad's mind and left his face blank but thankful when Mortimer choose to pour his drink. "Not a problem Mortimer." He did have to suppress a frown as Toad considered himself an outsider. It unnerved but at some level failed to surprise Xavier. Among mutants there was perhaps more diversity than among normal humans. Beyond ethno-cultural differences you would have such new prejudices as power levels (the weaker being picked on by the strong had reached a new threshold), physical mutations that were considered exotic, physical mutations that were considered monstrous, and physical mutations that were considered disgusting. Mortimer was being labeled with that last of them and Xavier wasn't really sure how to contend with that.
"I know you crave acceptance. Biggest secret of the universe is we all do. I have been bald since I was twenty-one. Perhaps a side-effect of my powers, my father died with full head of hair. This haircut is not because I am secretly an Air Nomad." He smirked. "But I want to know what's the best way you can get to know a person, for yourself personally?" He was hoping that Mortimer had experiences that would help him figure out a path to at least help his own students deal with their natural desire to label and catagorize people.

Toad smiled, he felt like he was being told that he was smarter than some of the Professor’s former students, which meant his stupid teachers. It was really nice to have someone who really seemed to believe in him, this was a very special old man.
“I don’t really know much school stuff and I don’t know what to do with it once I am done, it’s not like I can go to college and university, nobody would hire me, I am butt ugly” he shrugged, he knew he was different and he had learnt to deal with it and even use it to his advantage sometimes. Social situations just were not his strong side, he would say the wrong thing, do the wrong thing or worse, they would already have judged him before even speaking to him.
“Being bald might have been shitty for you, but it don’t look like it hurt you much, you are rich and owns this awesome school, your life can’t be bad, all you need now is a hot babe” he spoke before thinking, but even Toad realized that this was both a silly and inappropriate thing to say to the principal of your school. “I don’t know how to get to know people, they just don’t want to get to know me” he shrugged, if people didn’t want to be around him then screw them.

Xavier chuckled at the comment about the hot babe. "Alas, my positions in life have led to many hot babes walking away from me. I won't bore you with the details, but I have received a good share of rejection letters because of my beliefs." He shrugged. "Perhaps that is a story I need to tell some privately." He thought of Scott and Jean and their headbutting courtship.
He nodded to Mortimer's comments about getting to know people. "I can understand that concern, we will have to take it in stride towards the goal. I hope you won't mind as we move towards that goal of better integrating you here." Xavier considered it a bit of a personal affront that Mortimer was having difficulties in this. If he couldn't get his own students to accept Mortimer because of his mutations' behaviors, then...
Best not to think of this. He smiled to Mortimer. "Otherwise, I have no other business for the day Mortimer. You have a fine day." He extended his hand to offer a shake.
