This is first and foremost a school. The Basics
Name: Charles Francis Xavier Codename: Professor X Type of Character: Canon Species: Mutant Play-by: Patrick Stewart Age: 67 Gender: male Sexual Preference: heterosexual Height: 5'8 Weight: 145
Faction: X-men School Year: N/A Occupation: Headmaster of Xavier's Instituate
Tough break Scott, doing the school play with pale gloomy and grumpy over there. The Details
Body Type: Despite his wheelchair bound state, Xavier has maintained much of his upper body physique via extensive exercise. His lower body is maintained through electrical massage forcing the muscles to contract and relax as though they were being exercised. In his prime, Xavier stood over 6 foot and was a regional champion athlete. His injuries do much to annoy him. He is prematurally bald but once had blonde locks. His eyes are a sparkling baby blue.
Wardrobe: Professional and formal, Xavier is rarely seen outside of a suit, tie, and dress slacks. When at leisure, he will wear a smoking jacket and a white button down... though he has kicked the pipe at Jean's insistance. He wears his family's signet ring on his right hand, a circle X on a field of moonlight white-blue surrounded by tiny jeweler's sapphires. His proposal ring to Moira, that she returned to him before marrying MacTaggert resides on the same finger.
Costume: Professor Xavier has no costume.
Posture: Xavier has a very quiet body language, often sitting with his arms folded in his lap as he quietly speaks to his students. Rare is the occasion that a warm smile does not grace his face as he speaks with his 'children' even when he needs to correct their behavior. When using his powers offensively, he will place the tip of his index and middle fingers of both hands against his temples. This seems to be a motor-mind connect that he hasn't overcome.
Personality: The stately and fatherly Xavier is more than skin deep. He has a genuine love and concern for his students who he calls his children that might be his undoing. He doesn't want them to get hurt and thus fears them wandering into the big world. However, his love can not be questioned, having turned over his family estate and all its lineage into a school for mutants.
Xavier hates war, having had enough of a taste of it in his youth. He has seen his friends blown apart, killed men in close combat, and had his share of fruitless killing. His greatest fear is that mutants will become another excuse for horror... one way or the other. He believes that no violence is justified and yet knows that it might be needed, a contradiction that haunts him. That's why he formed the X-men, that's why he allowed Erik to train Scott into the soldier commander that Xavier needed. Because like it or not, they might just have to fight to save themselves and others from harm. But Xavier has conditioned and trained his students that there is no justification for taking justice into their own hands. Killing is not an option.
Xavier's first student was Erik Lehnsherr. The young magnetist was found in Israel turning his mutant gifts, his natural high intelligence, and his passion into pure weapons which he used against the Palestinians. Xavier asked him to follow. The young man agreed and took to Xavier as a father that war and hate had taken from him. When Erik and Xavier had their falling out, Xavier was devastated and couldn't stop asking what else could be done.
Turn Ons: Classic Literature, a warm fireplace, piano music, french cooking, and the biggest his students.
Turn Offs: warfare, depictions of violence, modern music, politics.
Worst Secret: He fears he is not doing enough. Character Goals: Mutant Human Co-Existance **Two year Goal - Mutant Human Co-Existance **Five year Goal - Mutant Human Co-Existance
So... got any cool powers? Powers and Abilities
Genetic Mutation: Xavier is an omega level telepath and omni-path. He is able to traverse the astral plane at a whim. As an omni-path he is able to maintain, for short periods, continuous contact with all the minds in the world. He does not do this for fear of being lost. As a telepath he can read minds, project thoughts, alter memories, program templates into people's minds, and even forcefully control a person with his own mind.
Weaknesses:
- Ethics- While not a weakness, Xavier believes that using his powers as anything short of a last resort to protect his 'children' is an unforgivable sin. And even at that point there is a limit to what he could do. Xavier is very aware that he could simply impose tolerance on the world whether they like it or not but perceives that as a hollow victory that would be as transparent as clingwrap... and just as easily broken.
- Mind-Body Disconnection- If anything were to happen to Xavier's mental self or his body while he was projecting, he would be as good as dead... and perhaps worse.
- Limits of Psychic Abilities- As Xavier has no telekinesis or other power set and is physical disabled, he is powerless before non-living threats. Whether its a simple land mine like the one that crippled him or a robot, Xavier must have a mind to target if he is to use his powers at all.
Mastery: Xavier has had his mutation since his early teens and has religiously developed it. He has explored the Astral Plane to delve its secrets, he can maintain a psychic link over his students to facilitate them in the field. Through Cerebro, he can shift through the brainwaves of the Earth's populace to locate and localize mutant brainwaves for potential students. This information is then stored in Cerebro's computers for analyst once he is disengaged.
Learned Abilities: Genetist, telepathically gleams most languages. Trained US Ranger, trained helicopter pilot on military turbo-props. Field Medic training up to a traditional paramedic.
Resources: Xavier Estate and surrounding area that includes most of the woods and structures located around the school. Several minor businesses and trust funds that support the school, some funded in conjunction with Erik Lehnsherr. He owns several cars including a limo that he uses whenever going recruiting or to dinners out.
Education: Doctorate in Genetics, Biophysics, Psychology, and Anthropology at Oxford.
So why not tell them the Truth Charles? The History Charles Francis Xavier was born in his ancestral family home in Salem Center to his father Dr. Brian Xavier and mother Sharon Xavier. He was delivered by his own father, a physics researcher with a medical background of his own. When Xavier was 8 his father died in an accident and shortly afterwards, Dr. Kurt Marko, who was working with his father at the time, married his mother. This introduced Xavier to his step-brother, Cain.
Charles, despite being only his step-son, was favored by Dr. Marko. Perhaps it was simply that Kurt saw the intelligence in Charles work and his own future as a learned man over his brutish son. Either way, things began to not add up. Complaining of constant migraines and her health fading rapidly, Sharon had retreated into her quarters. For the last two weeks of her life Charles only saw her once, when he snuck into her room and saw her wasting away. Xavier never realized that her condition was his doing, his emergent psionic presense had overlapped his mother's limited psionic abilities and fractured her mental frame. Charles would later blame Kurt Marko.
The tragedies did not end, as a few years later when Xavier was 15; he discovered the truth of his father's death. In an overheard argument between the Marko's; Cain accused his father of killing both Brian and Sharon and said he would go to the police. Young Xavier burst from hiding and demanded answers. A fight began between the step-brothers and for once Xavier held his ground and fought back. But it was in the household lab and Cain was knocked into a table that held beakers of various chemicals. A flashpoint occured and Xavier was knocked out.
When he woke up, him and Cain were on the ground, the latter still unconscious and Kurt Marko, burnt and dying was kneeling beside him. He didn't kill Brian he said, but he did leave him to die. He didn't kill Sharon, but he had wanted the wealth. But mostly, he wanted Charles. Kurt Marko told Charles, 'you have a great gift, your mind, not just your intelligence, you know I am telling the truth. Beware of Cain, he has the worse of me... try to help him, try to broaden his view... but never turn your back on him.' Then Kurt Marko died.
Xavier would leave Cain to the mansion when he went abroad to study in the years to come. Studying in England, he met Moira Kinross. The two hit it off at the start. They were both brilliant genetists in coming. They were both passionate about their mutant genome theories. And most of all, they were very passionate about each other. But, as exams ended for the first half of his doctorate at Oxford, Xavier asked Moira to marry him. He was headed home to check on the estate, and when he came back, he wanted to collect her and bring her... home. She said yes and took his ring.
Charles returned to find the mansion in disarray. Never one to apply himself, Cain had made a mockery of the ancestry estate. Furious, Xavier retook most of the mansion and with some intent, placed all of his athletic and academic awards in the common room. Literially transforming Cain's former party room into his trophy case. This set Cain off who attacked Xavier. But the meek boy was long gone. Xavier easily outfought Cain and banished him from the house. 'Go earn something for once Cain.'
While Xavier was putting his affairs in order, it took some time, he received a letter from Moira. He had been so happy to hear from her, it had to be good news. Inside was two things, a note and his ring. She was marrying some guy named Joe MacTaggert. Xavier was lost.
In an effort to escape, Xavier joined the Rangers and went to Vietnam. There, he became known as the Shadow and fought in the jungles. It would leave him, like many, scarred for life and resentful of war. After two years, Xavier left the war behind and journeyed the world. While in Israel, he saw something baffling. In the periodic wars between Israel and its neighbors, a young man with silver hair stood before a tank and shattered it with a gesture sending it crashing into its own soldiers. Xavier used his own powers to lock down the area and approached him. It was a meeting that would change the world. For good or ill has yet to be decided.
He was Erik Lehnsherr, the future Magneto, he had been orphaned by the racial hatred of the area, his parents, holocaust survivors, had not survived their life in the Holy Land. Xavier told him that he was special too and gestured to the frozen combatants. 'No war can end wars. If we want peace we have to work together to build it.' He offered Erik his hand. 'Come with me, help me build the foundation. I have an idea.'
But as they were leaving, Charles would trip an anti-personnel mine. The explosion would cripple him, returning home, Charles and Erik worked to refurbish the mansion into a school. Erik was brillant, a natural inventor who helped Xavier create most of the technological wonders of the mansion including Cerebro and the Danger Room.
The doors of Xavier's would open to its first students with Xavier and Erik as the teachers. Moira and Xavier had mended their relationship and were partners across the Atlantic with Moira's Muir Island facility also working on Mutant Research.
Time went well until a disagreement between Erik and Charles would see the young magnetist leave on sour terms. Even then, things continued. Xavier was quite pleased as he watched his first students go into the world and become adults. When he asked them back he was quite happy with their reactions. Even Emma, who starting her own school was seem as a good thing as it allowed for a broader discussion on the issues.
