There was nothing Rogue loved more than an early morning run through Central Park. It cleared her head and let her think about where she was in her life, plus it helped her keep in shape.
After three miles though, she was ready for coffee and breakfast. Coming out of Central Park West, Rogue slowed to a jog, then a walk as she made her way to Starbucks on 72nd and Broadway, her regular morning in the city haunt. She hopped on line and placed her order with Shane, the Sunday morning barista.
"Wait-- wait I know. Don't tell me. Double tall vanilla chi latte, extra whip and a bacon egg and gouda artisan breakfast sandwich, right?"
"On the nose." Rogue replied. "Good memory! She leaned in, pulling her auburn hair up off her neck, he white streak falling in wispy layers to frame her face. She fanned herself, clad only in a green sports bra and shorts.
"Well you're pretty tough to forget." Shane said. "I mean, every Sunday you're in here after a run. Why do you do it?"
Her latte was slid down the bar for her, and Rogue caught it, thinking contemplatively. "Honestly? You don't stand in front of a mirror before a run and wonder what the road will think of your outfit. You don't have to listen to its jokes and pretend they're funny in order to run on it. It would not be easier to run if you dressed sexier. The road doesn't notice if you're not wearing lipstick, does not care how old you are. You do not feel uncomfortable because you make more money than the road. And you can call on the road, whenever you feel like it, whether it has been a day, or even a couple of hours since your last date. The only thing the road cares about is that you pay it a visit once in a while."
Rogue smirked, picked up her order and took it to a seat in the booth in the back. She'd left Shane flabbergasted. Which was good. Maybe then it would be another week before he asked her out.
She liked Shane. He was sweet. And good looking. But going out with him would just remind Rogue of the man she ran from; the damn thief who had stolen her heart.

It was a long night for the Cajun, in fact he had not even slept yet. Then again, most nights were long for Remy LeBeau, if Gambit's mind wasn't plagued by the thoughts of his wedding night turned wrong, it was filled with the guilt of the things he did afterwards. Remy wasn't able to ever forgive himself for the things he had done in the past. All the lives he had ruined in his wake, all the people left without jobs, or even bodies. The only thing the Cajun knew how to do, was hide behind a smile and a slight of hand.
The Cajun was sitting in the local coffee shop, figured that if Scott needed Remy to clean the Danger Room, or help maintain the Hanger, or whatever nonsense Scott tried to convince the team was "doing their part" Remy knew what that meant, Scott didn't trust Remy, and Gambit could not blame Scott for the distrust. The only thing Remy could do better than his poker smile was leave the wise distrusting of his true ambitions.
His glowing red eyes caught sight of a certain sight, a sight that Remy was afraid he would rarely see anymore. Or at least a sight of another woman who had hated his guts, and worst of all it seemed her eyes were looking over the barrista. It would be a lie to say Remy didn't feel a bit of envy, but he pushed it down with the rest of the feelings in his system. With a careful stride, he sat himself across from the Southern Belle and said with a wink, his Cajun accent ever present. "Ohh p'tite, when Remy was thinking you were running around his head all day, he didn't think it'd be a fact."

Think of the devil and he will show with his beautiful red eyes. Anna had not even managed to get the image from her last night at Xavier's of Remy standing outside her door as she shut it before she did something stupid (like kiss him) out of her head before he was there, sitting in front of her. Instinctively, she snatched her hands back from where he had almost grazed her fingers with his own, and fished around inside her backpack.
"Oh Cajun, you were about one centimeter away from death there a moment ago." Rogue said, tsking her tongue lightly against the roof of her mouth. "You stalkin me now, or did Ah jest happen to run across yer neck of the swamp this mornin?"

The stroke of luck that Remy did not touch the southern belle was a gift and a curse. Remy was in no mood to be sent into a coma. It wasn't in his daily plan as it would be for most normal people. However, the lack of the ability to touch Rogue ate at Remy. The most precious fruit Remy had ever laid his eyes on, and he couldn't have it if he tried.
To say it was rough, is an understatement.
Gambit smiled slyly and looked over the Southern Belle and said with a grin. "No no no p'tite. Remy guesses Lady Luck be playing in Remy's favor this fine morning. I've missed yeah chérie, when did yeah ever plan on giving good ole Remy a phone call?" As Remy spoke he placed his bare hands on the table in front of him, while a meaningless sign to the average person, but to the thieves, it meant complete and utter honesty.

On slid the gloves, white satin this time that emerged from the backpack beneath the table. Rogue blushed just a bit when Remy said he missed her. She would be lying if she said she hadn't missed him too.
But she'd also be dead before she ever admitted it to the swamp rat too.
"Y'know somethin Remy? Ah heard the strangest thing about that newfangled invention of the telephone. Did ya know it works both ways?"
She gave him a smile and pulled her gloves on only to lay her own hands flat on the table as well. Yep, Rogue knew it was his sign of honesty. She also knew that if she didn't mock him just a bit Remy would think something was wrong.
"How will you evah get through a single day at Xavier's without me there to nag the holy hell outta ya?" Rogue replied, completely deadpan except for the glint of mischief in her celery colored eyes.

Remy chuckled and acted surprised when Rogue mentioned that phones can call both ways he smiled and put on a innocent look and chuckled. "Ohh chérie, you know how light Remy's heart gets when he tries to call you up." It was an obvious joke, but the fact of the matter was, Remy was for the first time unsure on how a woman felt about him, and that woman, be the southern belle. He had hoped she would have called him, just so he can be assured she shared the same feelings.
At least he had hope.
Gambit chuckled and the notion that Gambit could not have survived the onslaught of Xavier and Scott pummeling Remy into submission. Truth be told, he was starting to lose interest in the X-Men. He joined for Rogue, stayed for her, and not that she left... what was the point of staying? He thought about joining the new academy with Rogue, but he'd be damned before getting anywhere near Emma Frost. At least with Xavier, he would be honest about entering his mind. "Remy takes it one day at a time chérie. Now how bout you make Remy's day and let him take yeah out somewhere nice. Catch up on old times?"

There actually was nothing Rogue would have liked more than going out someplace with Remy. But she knew this game. She didn't like playing it, but there were rules. Rules like when you fell in love with someone, they got to kiss you and hold you, have sex with you.
Rules that Rogue couldn't ever follow. And not because she didn't want to.
That was what made her love for the Cajun so damn hard. She wanted the silly, romantic and often frivilous things that most people took for granted, like brushing your lovers hair out of his eyes without worrying if your gloves were thick enough to keep your skin from touching his should he be sweating.
So instead, Rogue went for the flirt, instead of the rejection. Remy Etinne Lebeau, just exactly what nice place to catch up do you think is gonna let the likes of me inside fer a meal in only mah sports bra and shorts? No. If ya wanna take me someplace nice, ya need ta let me get prettied up."

Remy grinned when Rogue flirted with him, he enjoyed the flirting, and it did not bother him the slightest that he was known as a shameless flirt in the city, but he did not hear a yes or a no From Rogue's full lips. Remy grinned and winked. "Oh p'tite, don't be modest, you be the prettiest thing no matter what 'cha wearing now."
Another idea popped into the head of the Cajun, he smiled and placed his hand on her gloved hand carefully and said with a smile. "How bout this then? let Remy take you out today, get your hair done, go shopping, get all the clothes you ever wanted, and when you are all dolled up Remy gets rewarded with your company. That'd be fair, no?"

Damn.
Damn damn DAMN!
He had to make it infuriatingly impossible to say no to him, didn't he? As if it wasn't hard enough all ready for her to keep him at arms length.
She tried to keep her face even, but eventually the smile beat out her resolve.
"Okay okay, Ah give. Ah'll let ya take me shoppin, but only because you're buyin, not stealin. Deal?"
she gently allowed herself to squeeze Remy's hand back. "When Ah left Xavier's Ah stopped havin to listen to Scott chew ya out on a nightly basis because of yer sticky fingers, and Ah have no desire to be on the recievin end of a Scott Summer's ass reamin, okay?"

If the Cajun wasn't good at keeping his composure, when the words yes escaped Rogue's mouth, Gambit would have jumped and hit the ceiling of the coffee store. However he did keep his cool, and only a wide smile showing Remy's pearly whites glowed. Gambit then simply replied. "Oh p'tite, now why you gonna think that Remy go and try and get himself in trouble when he got you in company? Ah'll buy whateva your heart desires."
And on that note, Remy stood up from his seat, raising Rogue's hand with him as his eyes took in more of Rogue's perfectly toned body. "Wow p'tite, who'd known it'd be possible that'cha found a way to be even more beautiful in Remy's eyes."

Shane, the barrista, watched as the Cajun stranger stood up and checked out his customer, blatantly, and made a face.
"Hey Rogue--he giving you trouble? Cause I'm the manager in training... I got the right to have him removed if he is."
Rogue bit her lip to keep from laughing out loud, though Remy could clearly see the laughter in her green eyes.
"S'alright Shane, Ah can handle the Swamp Rat. Mah momma taught me to shoot straight, s'long as Ah don't have to shoot too far."
She blushed at Remy's compliment and pulled her gloves up so they covered her forearms and over her elbows. Making sure his leather jacket covered his skin where her's would brush it, she slid her arm around Remy's waist over his coat, so his arm went around her shoulder over her hair. She was lucky her dang hair didn't cause her powers to activate. Rogue hated to think how she'd look with a bob.
"Well, thank you sugar. You look mighty fine to mah eyes yerself."

Remy had to snicker at the comment the boy named Shane said. The Manager in Training was going to take Remy away from Rogue? Remy wasn't offended, nor was he upset enough to respond with violence, but the mere thought that the manager in training of a coffee shop was able to stop Remy from getting what he wants? Oh only if the poor boy knew who he was talking to.
Luckily Rogue made the save by clearing up the situation, and all Remy had to do was gave the man a wink. Then he turned back around to give his attention back to Rogue. His arm wrapped around her, he took Rogue out of the coffee shop and said with a snicker. "Remy see's ah ain't the only one under your charms, p'tite."

"Yep that's me, charmin the pants off innocent coffee shop manager's with mah witches brew." Rogue teased back. "He's a sweet kid, really, but about as astute as some of the kids Ah teach to play guitar."
Rogue leaned up and blew a lock of Remy's hair out of his eye. "B'sides, it ain't as though every woman in the world don't have eyes on you. Might do ya a bit of good to know what it's like bein jealous fer a change."
Rogue winked sultrily.

Remy grinned and licked his lips and said teasingly. "When will Remy ever get to taste that witches brew?" It was a harmless flirt, something that the Cajun was infamous for. Remy however always wanted to learn a instrument, or at least an instrument that couldn't be used for breaking into something or taking something from someone else, and it wouldn't hurt to know a few songs to charm over Rogue.
Remy chuckled and felt Rogue's soft breath on his hair. When Rogue said he was jealous of the female admirers that wooed over Remy he had to smile smugly at it. He wasn't proud of being an attractive man, but he had to admit, it felt good that Rogue was jealous of the attention. Remy grinned and nudged her side with his elbow and joked. "Ohh p'tite are you saying you were jealous of someone? Oh please do tell the Cajun."

"Hmmmmm....."Rogue said with a small smirk. "Might be easier fer me to tell ya who Ah WASN'T jealous of, but sure, we can play this game if ya wanna."
She toyed with the streak of white in her hair playfully. "Well, there was the lil flyer girl who went skinny dippin with ya in the pool that time. There was Jujubee, one of mah best friends, but Ah saw the way ya drooled over her in her yellow spandex. Not to mention every lil purdy thing that came your way whenevuh we went to Atlantic City. Though Ah do declare, it would seem that while it takes big zingers and fellow mutants to raise the green eyed monster in mahself, you mah dear Swamp Rat, get yer hackles up over a sideways glance from a Starbucks Manager In Trainin."
Oh she loved flirting with him. It was such a tease, and a rush to see him try and figure out the rules.
And honestly it felt good to finally admit the many many times she'd swallowed the urge to take the gloves off with another girl around Remy--literally.
