Toad had wanted to get more familiar with the surroundings and the areas around the school, which was why he was going for a walk in Westchester County. He walked and looked around, there wasn’t much to see, but at least it was something new. He had been here for a while and was getting hungry, so he looked around for something to eat, which was not easy due to the cold weather.
There was no money in his pockets, but he did get an idea. He noticed a couple of guys who were gathered down the street, a couple of them were eating hotdogs! He smirked, got closer and shot out his tongue. His long tongue quickly wrapped around one of the guy’s hotdog and pulled it back to Toad and into his mouth whole, it wasn’t much as the guy had already eaten half of it, the guys were staring at him in disbelief and shock, so he figured it would be safe to grab one more before getting out of here.
His long tongue shot out once again, wrapping around another hotdog, but what he had not expected was that the owner of this hotdog would grab his tongue. He grabbed it and pulled hard “owwh!” it had really hurt, they were running towards him and Toad really didn’t know what to do now, he tried to pull his tongue back in, but it wasn’t exactly easy when somebody was holding it tight.
“What is this shit? Look at that freaky tongue!” one of them said, they had gathered around him, Toad felt helpless, he couldn’t jump away or spit at them without his tongue safe in his mouth. He didn’t get the time to think before a sharp pain hit him in the back as one of them kicked him, he fell face first onto the pavement “want some more of this, freak!? Think you can just steal people’s food!?” he just let out a whimper as answer to that.

"You want some more of what he got smart one?"
As the bullies looked around a hooded figure would walk out of the shadows of a nearby alleyway. The humans might not know her but perhaps Morty had seen the hooded girl around Xavier's institute. So he may know precisely how much damage Mira could do, or if he didn't know then this would be a learning experience. Thanks to the deep hood her face was mostly in shadow; aside from the wildly fangy grin she gave the humans before barely managing to dodge the first swing of the first bully and retaliating with a swift kick to the front of his ankle in an attempt to drop him.
The second male to try and lash out at her would get to see Mira's hands were armored as she punched him in the gut, before she got the others to back away from Mortimer. Primarily thanks to the twin curved trench knives she formed from her dark crystal as she moved near the ones keeping Toad on the pavement. The 'she-demon' growls out "you have five seconds to get the hell away from him before I get to see what butchered human tastes like..." .
As if to emphasize her threat/statement the female decided a quick way to spook the humans would be to snap her oddly sizeable fangs at them. Which had the hoped for effect of the ones left standing bolt off after grabbing the maimed folks. Then , once the humans had left Mira dissipated her sandstone weapons and crouched down near Toad "I...think situations like this are why the Prof doesn't like us going solo anywhere...why'd those humans assault you?". If Toad knew this chick's backstory he might realize she would sympathize with Toad; not condemn him for stealing at least.

As the hooded figure spoke from the shadows, Toad turned his head that direction too, just like the guys, he wondered how he hadn’t noticed her before now. She looked slightly scary, he wasn’t sure about what she was going to do before one of the guys attacked her, but she dodged it and seemed to take him down easily.
Toad felt somebody let go of his tongue and suddenly the guys were too focused on this girl to care about him, he quickly got up on his feet and jumped out of reach, onto a rooftop. He watched everything that was going on down there until the guys was running away in fear, it made him grin.
He jumped back down, landing a few feet away from her “T... Thank you” he nodded as she spoke to him, he didn’t want to tell her what he did, afraid she would do the same to him “because I am a mutant” it was halfway true, considering the things they had yelled and called him. “I owe you one, I don’t know how to thank you enough!” this school was amazing, he had never been used to getting help from anyone and suddenly people were helping him all the time.

As "Toad" spoke, claiming the humans had only done harm to him for being a mutant the girl closed her eyes and breathed in his scent through her nose. Oddly she only barely coughed despite his usual reek before she spoke up, looking calm and accepting "Its mostly covered by your natural...scent; but I still caught traces of 'fear scent' that all sentient things give off when they think they're about to be caught in a lie". Instead of being angry with the other mutant however; Mira moved closer and touched him without any outward revulsion "you don't have to lie you know, if you possibly stole food or whatever".
Then, the 'cat girl' chuckles sheepishly "after all; I'd be one hell of a hypocrite if I reamed you for stealing to try and survive, when that was all I knew for a long while back 'across the pond' as it were". Least now Mister Toynbee wouldn't need to worry about getting reamed out. And the girl wasn't apparently grossed out by him either! even if she wasn't making goo goo eyes at him. Hearing Toad claim he 'owed her one' caused the girl to shake her head "you don't owe squat man; I did that to help you, not get payback".
She grins a bit "you en't the first fellow mutant I've saved after all". Then she head-tilts quizzically "I think I remember seeing you when I first got to the School actually...do you remember me walking in with a swarm of lil kiddos?". As she continued speaking the hooded female reached up and lowered her hood to show her sort of shadowy face to the somewhat spooked male "sorry fer not saying this sooner; I'm Mirandel but you can call me Mira". As she finished speaking Mira tried to smile brightly at Toad...once more forgetting the whole 'fangs' thing...and the potenial spooking she'd give Toad with her fangy grin.

Toad’s gratitude towards the girl did not go away, but he got more nervous, it seemed like she could smell his feelings, which was not a good sign “it was halfway true” he shrugged, trying to act cool, but he was also ready to jump in case of danger “yeah, I got hungry, so I ate their hotdogs” what to do when lies won’t work? Be honest of course, or figure out a better lie, but if she could smell that he was afraid of being caught in lying, what was the point?
As she reached out to touch him, he jumped back out of reflex “s… sorry, I can be a bit… jumpy” if his face wasn’t green, it would have been turning red. “Wait, exactly where are you from? I come from across the pond myself, Professor Xavier picked me up from the Scottish streets, but I am from Yorkshire” she seemed nice, Toad wasn’t used to nice, so he felt weird, but at the same time it was a good feeling. “It’s how it goes, you help me, I help you if I can” he smiled nervously, showing his yellow teeth.
He thought about it, there was many people at the school, he was sure he would have recognized her if he had seen her, but he didn’t pay that much attention to the other people at the school “sorry, never seen you”. The girl was pretty, her mutation was also quite visible like his, but she was beautiful while he was ugly and he knew it “you can call me Toad, everyone does” he shrugged, the name his parents had given him before they abandoned him was not relevant to him. Her fangs looked sharp, this was not a girl he would mess with, he would be careful around her.

Mira growled out softly as she listened to Toad point out that his earlier comment was still true "just because we are what we are gives them no right to do our kind harm...I'm just glad I found you before they did anything worse". After a moment she seemed to remember she might scare the jumpy one and sighs to calm herself down before looking at Toad again "thank you for being honest about the situation though".
Instead of being offended when Toad leaped back from her Mira shrugged "no big, sorry I made you jump though". Hearing Toad ask where she was from the girl chuckled and slid into a mild form of a brit accent "why I'm from Merry ol' London England Guv'nor!". Half her 'act' was to give info and half was clearly to get the jumpy boy to laugh a bit.
Mirashrugs goodnaturedly once again when Toad pointed out why he was so set on owing her one "Alright then, if yer sure you'd want to owe me for this; even though I like doing this stuff to help others for no reason". In response to his nervous smile Mira would crack an encouraging grin to show she was not a threat. Then she laughs softly "its fine, the day I showed up was a lil hectic after all; what with all the lil ones milling about and whatnot". Hearing the name Toad offered made Mira faintly wince "but our classmates aren't doing it to insult you I hope?". Despite clearly feeling bad Mira looks up smiling sheepishly "my lil friends called me 'Darkshard' as a nickname...because of what I can do".

Toad jumped a bit again as she growled out and seemed mad “yeah” he replied and looked towards the rooftops, he could jump up there if necessary. She did however seem friendly towards him, he didn’t relax but he was pretty sure she wouldn’t hurt him “oh, honesty is my middle name” he grinned nervously.
“What are the chances? Two Brits randomly finding eachother in Westchester?” he was kind of happy to hear that she was British, it meant they had that in common too, alongside being mutants. He wished he was more handsome, because she was really hot and probably wouldn’t have any interest in him, she was speaking to him now, but it had to be out of pity.
Toad shrugged “they call me Toad, as it is what everyone have called me all my life, I do look like one after all” he looked down and felt awkward “not like you, you are really pretty” he said, it was an awkward thing to say, but he just said it. “Toad is fitting with my powers anyway" he said as he jumped over her head and landed on the other side, before shooting his tongue out pretty far, across the street and quickly pulling it back in.
