This is first and foremost a school. The Basics
Name: Everett Thomas Codename: Synch Type of Character: Canon Species: Mutant Play-by: J. August Age: 18 Gender: Male Sexual Preference: heterosexual Height: 5'8 Weight: 210
Faction: Mass. Academy School Year: senior in high school//doing college work Occupation: full time student
Tough break Scott, doing the school play with pale gloomy and grumpy over there. The Details
Body Type: Everett stands just below 6 foot and has a muscled development from obsessive exercise. His hair is normally black but he shaves it bald for basketball and swimming. His almond eyes are usually bright and warm.
Wardrobe: Everett favors two styles of clothing; dress and casual. His casual outfits tend to be athletic in nature. Sports jackets in cold weather with baggy sweat pants. Sleeveless shirts in dark colors (black, blue, and green) in warm weather with faded blue jeans. His dress outfit tends to be his school uniform, black jacket, white shirt, black slacks and a red tie. A NY Giants ball cap is usually atop his head when he is out and about.
Costume: As a Hellion, Everett wears a solid red armor with black embelms. His face piece is a muzzle mask in red like the mortal combat ninjas.
Posture: Proud and tall, Everett knows how good he is and his stance will be telling of that pride. But his demeanor is not cold, he puts off a comforting presense that tends to make his pride look more like confidence. His warm nature comes through in his posture as a friendly guy whose open to anyone.
Personality: Everett is ambitious. He isn't cocky so much as he wants to prove himself. He knows he is skilled and he wants to prove it to himself and to others. That a foster boy from a rainbow family can make good. He wants to have it all. He wants to pass first in his class and go to the best colleges. He wants to gain control of his fantastic power and become the world's greatest hero. Everett Thomas doesn't want to be a hero. He wants to be The Hero. He wants to be the guy with the big S shield on his chest.
Everett is not a cold person, he is in fact very personable and approachable. He believes in helping people, its not just a trope of a hero to him. Its what you should be. Whether that's standing up to evil or just buying a meal for someone you meet on the street. Among his classmates, Everett will often volunteer to help another learn their powers via shared exploration, using his synch to share that ability for awhile as they learned what to do with their ability.
Everett is competitive. He wants to be number 1. Being the best at what he does is important to Everett, even obsessive, and Everett tries to do everything. It puts him under alot of stress and when he doesn't perform well he becomes Mr. Grumbles. It doesn't last long and usually a day or two later he's working hard on that particular skill.
Everett is a proud mutant who loves each and every mutant power that he can absorb. Telepathy, physical feral mutations, super-strength, energy blasts. They are all awesome, though utility can be debated at times. Everett has no superiority feelings against/toward humans. Turn Ons: Winning, clever girls, grape soda, R&B, Christian Rock, and a good game of sports, any will do.
Turn Offs: Losing, unambitious people, coffee, alt-rock, being stuck somewhere with nothing to do and alone.
Worst Secret: He fears his ambition will lead to his own ruin. Character Goals: To be the worldest greatest hero, to become a world-class engineer, to be famous. **Two year Goal - Get into a top-flight theoretical engineering school, make an impact as a solo mutant hero, master retainment of his synched powers. **Five year Goal - Startup his own advanced design research engineering company. Be recruited by like the Avengers or F4.
So... got any cool powers? Powers and Abilities
Genetic Mutation: Everett's mutation is the ability to synchronize and copy the mutant or meta gifts of those around him. The exact range of this gift seems to be around 30 meters in radius around him. He can absorb the mutant gift of those some distance away without knowing it. Everett's copying tends to not manifest immediately, allowing him to hold a power and use it when he needs it. For some reason Everett tends to gain the level of mastery equal to his own mastery of his synching. This means he is capable of using a power sometimes better than the holder. When Everett uses his synch field or a power he copied with his synching, an aura will appear around him that forms a rainbow around or behind him. Copied energy attacks will take this form. Naturally, he fears synching with Cyclops. 'I don't wanna shoot rainbows out of my eyes.'
His synch field has one extra useful benefit. When has synched with another directed mutant attacker, their powers have reduced effects on his body.
Weaknesses: Retention: At this point Everett only has short term retention of a mutant gift he has synched. This time seems to be inversely related to necessary mastery. Physical enhancement he can hold for a long while, a few days to a week or two. Superhuman attribuates max at a few days. Energy attacks will fade after an hour or two upon synching. Psychic, elemental, and teleportation will fade upon the subject leaving the field's reach.
Knowledge/Conscience awareness: Unlike most absorbers copiers, Everett has to reach out to take the ability. Thus, if Everett is unaware of the availablity of a power, he can not synch to it.
Strain: Extreme physical transformations can do extreme injury to his body. If the person leaves the field before Everett lets go of the ability, the results could be 'bad'.
Learned Abilities: - Sports- Everett excels at Basketball, Football, swimming, and baseball and competes competitively.
- Architecture- Everett has journals full of architectural studies, diagrams, and designs.
- Languages- Everett speaks spanish, thaiwanese, and Haitian French.
Resources: None
Education: High school graduate with progress towards his AA underway. Highly strong at science and math. No major class weakness.
So why not tell them the Truth Charles? The History
Everett Thomas was born to a teenage mother in a bad situation already. Shortly after his birth, he was given up to the state. As an infant foster baby, Everett was adopted by the Thomas family. He was the first of three foster kids. When he was 5, his parents brought home a baby hispanic sister and when he was 10, a baby Thai brother. For reasons of identity, all three children were taught English and the native languages of the other household members.
Everett's early school years were a study in success and behavioral issues. His actual schooling was great, he was a natural learner and his parents obsession with multi-lingualism caused him to be more than a little advanced when it came to grammar and literature. This led to a problem though, Everett tore through his classwork so rapidly that he had no outlet afterwards and would cause disruptions. Eventually someone caught on to his speed of learning and sent him into a more challenging course work.
As Everett turned 15 he began to discover two important things. One of his friends in school had an amazing gift to fire electrical bolts from his fingertips. The other thing Everett discovered... is he could do it too. What Everett soon realized, spotting and watching others with abilities, is that he could synchronize with a mutant power and use it himself. But only as long as the other person was around.
So Everett learned with, and helped taught, his mutant friends. Eventually, coming home from basketball, he found a visitor at his home. Her name was Emma Frost, she was the headmistress of a school for exceptional students. Everett waved off her parsing of words. 'You mean mutants.' She smiled and nodded. She wanted him to join, his powers were too amazing and his appitude at academics was beyond excellent. So Everett accepted, the chance to learn more about his powers and to learn more about other people's powers. Telepathy could be fun after all.
So Everett packed his bags and climbed into a plane ride to Boston to join the Massachusetts Academy.
